HELL YEAH, HE'S BOMBASTIC

I see that one of the Power Line guys has had to avail himself of the fainting couch:

NAME-CALLING AS JOURNALISM

"Bombastic West rakes In cash" -- that's the title Politico gives to its story about how Republican Allen West, a former Army colonel who is challenging for a congressional seat in Florida, raised a remarkable $1.4 million in the second quarter of 2010.

Politico reporter Alex Isenstadt fails to explain why he considers West bombastic. Instead, he notes that West has been endorsed by Sarah Palin and that a speech he gave at Tea Party event has received two million views on YouTube. Enough said, if you're a leftist writing for leftists.

I heard West speak back in January. I found his talk compelling, patriotic and at times fiery, but not bombastic.....

Hugh Hewitt is also certain that West would never, ever utter a bombastic word:

Col. West is anything but bombastic. What he is an inspiring and plain speaking patriot who is a very good candidate.

Now, I admit I've never heard West speak. But I've read quite a few of his published statements. Bombastic? What else would you call this?

... How many of you recall that just a little over 30 years ago, a previous weak, ineffective, effete Democrat president allowed the Ayatollahs to rise to power. Hence resulting in a fleeing of exceptionally gifted Persians and ushering in of a new era of radical Islamic terrorism.

Now, some 30 years later we have a redux of an effete, ineffective President whose nuanced intellectual elite responses offer no support to those desiring Liberty. Indeed, President Obama's apologetic Cairo speech just emboldened the Mad Mullahs and Annoying Ayatollah's, as well as Johnny Jihadi. The theocrats and despotic autocrats who dominate the Islamic world realize they are free to butcher and suppress their own people, young people, who desire one thing.....Freedom.

Imagine if Obama existed in the days of the Soviet Union, Lech Walesa, and Vaclav Havel, would that wall have indeed come down? I know that the "messiah" believes that his mere presence and a teleprompted speech will convice killers to lay down their arms and worship at his feet.

That is the state of delusional malignant narcissism which now occupies 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

Want some more? This is from the 2008 campaign:

My advice to Senator Obama is to run as a Man and Leader, and the American people will evaluate you as such, not as a victim. This is a Presidential race, based solely on a capacity to lead the United States of America. It is not about skin tone...however, perhaps we should come to expect these immature statements.

It also seems rather humorous that the Presidential candidate who was supposed to be such a "uniter" and transcend race is the one talking about it the most. If Senator Obama was confident in his abilities and character, he would not need to create a crutch for failure. Senator Obama has just tipped his hand, any criticism of him and his policies will be directly attributed to racism. I congratulate Senator Obama for taking race relations in America back some 30 years.

And, just at random, let's take the most recent "news" post on his campaign site:

... In the past month my dear skittish opponent, Ron Klein, has used emails to castigate me in some very negative terms. He has referred to me as a "radical", "extremist", and other disparaging terms. I understand the liberal way of campaigning is based upon cowardice and personal character attacks. Yes, I said cowardice because there is no other way to explain pressuring a local city to disinvite me from a joint speaking appearance. Men face each other on the battlefield of combat or ideological discourse and Ron Klein obviously will do neither.

I thank God that the men who signed the Declaration of Independence, fought the Revolutionary War, and created our Constitution were cut of a different cloth than someone such as Ron Klein.

Today the Obama administration initiated a lawsuit against the sovereign American State of Arizona, truly an appalling waste of taxpayer dollars. I believe that Governor Jan Brewer has every right under the 10th Amendment to secure the citizens of her State, especially since the federal government is recalcitrant in doing so. What I find amazing is we have a President who last week admitted that he cannot do anything and that the situation is beyond his solving... basically surrendering. Oops, sorry, Obama believes that we can solve the illegal immigration issue by just making them all citizens, the path of an ignoble, uncourageous person.

Wow. We like ourselves, don't we, Allen?

West liked himself when he was violating the rights of detainees in Iraq and he likes himself now. Bombastic? They should put his picture next to the word in the dictionary. I haven't found a statement of his that isn't bombastic.

Politico has removed the adjective from its headline. That was a mistake. Politico had it right the first time.

****

West does not, however, appear to be boombastic, which is something else entirely.
